This is false. There is no law saying you have to keep the weight below the door sticker.

The only place this is a law is British Columbia, and the police enforce it, not the weigh stations.

Tell that to the CA and NV highway patrol when they stop you. Each state has their own laws about truck weight and they are allowed to deviate substantially from federal DOT standards. These states are the likely to target an F150 with a big setup. However the most targeted rigs are utility body 1 tons. These cops doing the inspections are very knowledgeable and know all the specs and the state laws. There are more states with similar laws, but I do not have a list.

Yes, each state/province has its own laws. That’s why it’s only illegal to exceed GVWR in BC.

What’s illegal in CA and NV and every other state/province is to exceed the Registered Gross Weight for which a licence fee has been paid. That’s not the number on the door sticker; it’s the number on the vehicle registration.
