Default Grade Braking??

Do 2020 F150s with max tow have a grade/engine braking function? I just bought my 2020 crew 3.5 4wd with max tow 2 days ago and curious if i have that. Ha. Or to achive this do you just use the manual mode and shift gears? I had a 2011 silverado and wjen going down a hill in tow/haul mode, if you tapped the brake lightly it would engage the engine braking. Wjen you didnt need it anymore, you quicky tapped the accelerator and it would turn it off. Loved that feature when towing my camper. Thanks all! I love my f150 so far!!!

Couldn't find much in manual. Found this in the Towing Selector for 2020 f150. Is the 10 speed trans the "TorqShift" trans?

Towing On Hills
Downshift the transmission to assist braking on steep downgrades and to increase power (reduce lugging) when climbing hills. With TorqShift® transmission, select tow/haul mode to automatically eliminate unwanted gear search when going uphill and help control vehicle speed when going downhill.

My 2014 will do that in tow/haul mode, I would bet the 2020's do to. But I don't wait on the truck to downshift. I use the gear lock out feature to lock out higher gears and get into the proper gear BEFORE I need it. I don't use the manual mode, but that would work too.

My 2015 3.5 does that in tow haul mode, its fairly aggressive too, it took some getting used to coming from my 05 F-150 with the 5.4.

Any F150that has a tow package will have the tow/haul switch, and therefore engine braking.

I can speak to my '19 does have engine braking when in tow/haul. I would assume the 20 also does but without having driven/researched one it's just a guess.

From the manual:

To activate tow mode, press the button on the gearshift lever until tow mode is selected. The indicator light illuminates in the instrument cluster when the system becomes active.
The tow mode feature:
  • Moves upshifts to higher engine speeds to reduce the frequency of transmission shifting.
  • Provides engine braking in all forward gears, which slows your vehicle and assists you in controlling your vehicle when descending a grade.
  • Depending on driving conditions and load conditions, may downshift the transmission, slow your vehicle and control your vehicle speed when descending a hill, without pressing the accelerator pedal. The amount of downshift braking provided varies based upon the amount you press the brake pedal.
