Default Focus Towing

Just curious what is the weight a Focus can tow. Been tossing around the idea of getting a small boat, 14-16 foot fishing boat, lightweight like a Lund or a Lowe. Between the trailer and boat/motor shouldn't weigh more than 800-900 pounds. I wouldn't be launching it with the car, just towing from home to the campgrounds, then use the truck to launch it at whatever lake we decide to visit.

Most smaller FWD cars are limited to 1000lbs. But I'd find the owners manual online to confirm.

According to 2017 Focus owner's manual, Never tow a trailer with a Focus. It is not approved for towing.

There are other small cars or SUVs that can haul a lightweight trailer. I have towed behind a 4-cyl 1974 Mustang II, (8' lawn mower trailer) Hyundai Santa Fe, (popup camper) and will soon with a Jeep Patriot. (Very Lightweight boat). Read the specs and stay within them.

All Ford manuals are online at owner.ford.com.

I've put a canoe on top my Focus but never thought about towing. I'd guess you could make it work with limited weight. I think that I've seen a hitch on an older wagon but that may be a false memory and may have been a bicycle rack. Good luck at any rate.

There you go, now you got it! Don't forget to put the shopping cart wheel on the jack to help take the weight off the hitch!

All sorts of Ford vehicles are included in the Ford RV and Trailer Towing Guide, including the Escape sub-compact CUV. But the Focus is not one of them. So I'll bet Velosprout is correct.

Probably right, though not surprised if I see one actually doing it, heck I have seen ppprius towing things, and those are not made for towing, period. It was just a thought for next year. Trying to figure out a way to get my RV and a boat up to the lakes next year in one trip. Maybe a Superduty is in the works sooner than later.
