Determine Tow Package
#11
So I've confirmed: Trans Cooler, 36 gallon Tank, Brake controller, 3.55 axle, 4-pin/7-pin, Class IV, trailer hitch receiver, Smart Trailer Tow Connector, Pro Trailer Backup Assist. But.... looking at my hitch and pics I found of the max tow hitch I just have the regular trailer tow hitch which is still a class 4 hitch with a maximum 1000lb vertical rating. So 1000/.13= ~7700lbs. I'm good with that although it only leaves me 510lbs of me and stuff in the truck. Guess I better start eating more salads.

My chain ears are at an angle but my window sticker says class IV receiver. Are there any other tell tale signs to look for? I don't think I have max tow.

Mike, You nailed it. I realized I don't have the max tow receiver and that it doesn't matter on bit. My limiting variable is the class 4 vertical load limit on tongue weight and or my max payload. As long as it's just me in the truck and not the whole family assuming no weight distributing trailing I'm looking at 1000lbs max tongue weight / ~13% trailer weight on the tongue = ~7700lbs. That said if I've got a load of wood to take a few miles down the road then the calculation looks like this. That trailer + this truck = yep, get'r done. With the proper weight distribution hitch I wouldn't hesitate to pull the 10,600 it's rated for on paper. Of course it's all a bit superfluous at this point since the biggest trailer I currently own is a 14' single axle utility trailer. I've probably rarely had over 7k lbs on it.

tooo lazy to go outside but I remember to the left of the right side sticker & the hole & facing down there was a bunch of details stamped there..
something like 4100 lbs..
both hitches above look very much the same??
The only thing different you can see in each picture is the thickness of the chain bracket??

Yep, 500lb max tongue weight 1000lb distributed. Guess I'll worry about it if I'm ever pulling anything of any size very far. For now it is what it is. That max tongue weight is pretty pathetic though. There's 600lb tongue weight rated class 3 hitches. What's the max tow package hitch tongue weight rated for? We've seen how similar they are. Are they just trying to sell that package?

Curt has a receiver rated at 1,000lb, however you have to either get one than hangs under your current one or remove your current one and install a standard bumper support without receiver. Myself, I figure I'll worry about it when I see the first of either factory receiver either bent or broken.
