Default Dash light setting

So I seem to have two separate issues:

First, my camper is prewired for cameras and I have installed a wireless camera on the rear of the travel trailer. It uses a screen in the cabin that I plug in to power outlet on the dash. In order for it to receive a signal, I must turn the headlights to the on position. It will not power (nor will camper lights) unless lights are turned to on. On a recent trip, everything was fine going down but on the return trip, I could not get a signal, even though the screen is definitely powered as it states, "no signal."

Second issue: Also on return trip, the dash lights are in the dark setting as if it were night outside. No matter what selection I put them on, they will remain on dark mode unless I turned the lights to the off position, then I get the brighter appearance. I confirmed the dimming is on the highest setting but still the screen is dark making it difficult to see the gauges during the day. The in dash screen is also dark but I was able to force it to bright by using the internal setting. Also, the dash issue is present regardless of whether or not the camper wiring is plugged to it.

I've been all over the manual thinking surely I inadvertently hit a button or something causing this but I can't find anything wrong. This is the first time it has happened in several trips with the camper.

UPDATE - MAYBE. As I wrote about this issue, it just dawned on me that my wife had her magazine on the dash and therefore I would be money she had the sensor covered up. I'm laughing out loud and ticked all at the same time. This just might be resolved but the truck is at the house at the moment.

Please let us know if it was the sensor being covered and what is the brand, model number of the trailer backup camera. This is on my camper shopping list. Have you looked at the trailer backup camera troubleshooting section of the owner's manual?

Hope it’s that simple!

A back up camera on the camper is great. A set up like that came on our airstream from the factory. I use it as a rear
view mirror when driving. You can see easily when you’ve fully passed someone.

Ours too has to have the lights on, well, just running lights. It doesn’t need the headlights to power up.
