Default Brake controller shower trailer not connected

So pulling my TT back from a long weekend get away I noticed my Reese brakeman 4 was showing trailer disconnected. All lights worked, I was able to stop fine, truck has oversized brakes.

I know I should have a good ground, because all lights worked

Recently I removed the battery, maybe 1 cable. Outdoor be loose?

Brakes got very hot last time I pulled it, because I over adjusted them. Could I have melted a wire?

Yes to the melted wire, or it was really disconnected and only working the trailer lights.
