Is this a OEM brake controller that came installed from the factory or a OEM brake controller that was installed after the fact?

You are talking about two different things: brake controller/driver assist(helps you back up with touching the steering wheel) You have electric brakes and you should be able to set it to medium which will be around 5. Keep trying you are on the right track

There should be a "+" and "-" next to the slider on the brake controller. Once the trailer is set up press the "+" button to set your trailer brake gain.

It is OEM that was installed by the dealer after I bought it.

When you press the "+" or "-" buttons does anything change on the dashboard? It should show the trailer brake gain. If not, I wonder if they failed to activate it properly in the trucks computer system when they installed it.

Yes it does, only when I press the + or - not when I apply the brakes.
Hooking it up tomorrow and setting it to medium and see what happens.Thank you again for the help.!!

Play with the gain tomorrow. Ideally, the truck stops the truck and the trailer brakes stop the trailer. If you feel like the trailer is pushing the truck when you try to stop add more gain a little at a time. I think I have my gain set at 8.0.

OP, check out this thread. https://www.f150forum.com/f118/trail...solved-379698/

I just got back from a trip with a rented TT. The gain was maxed out and the brakes would rarely seem to be effective (Only a few times would it go over 2 bars) The manual control would never lock the brakes, either.

I would get faults during harder stops, I had to baby it or the brakes wouldn't work. Even then, it wasn't reliable. Sometimes the brakes would pulse, or not work at all.

I can get my trailer brakes to stop the truck using manual control. This gives me a setting of 7.5V. When I use the truck brakes for a normal stop I never see it go over 2 bars. On a harder stop I can see 3 or 4. I've never tried a panic stop. Anyway since the controller is supposed to be proportional I've also assumed the correct amount of braking is getting to the trailer and its behavior seems to confirm this.
