I ordered the Equalizer E4 hitch a few months ago from etrailer and just installed it this past weekend. I drove about 40 to 50 miles, this was on the freeway up to about 70 mph and also on rough, windy backroads with a lot of hills and with this new hitch it was stabile without any sway. I may try adding one more washer to the setup some time just to see what it does because I am still 200 lbs lighter on the front axle vs empty but as it is now I am happy with the towing. Measuring the front wheel wells it is only up 1/8” over unloaded height which is well within specs. The real test will come this summer after going on a few camping trips into the mountains and also a 300 mile drive each way on the freeway. One complaint about this hitch is that the ball is not installed and it is supposed to be torqued to 430 ft lbs, I ordered part number 90-00-1069 and Equalizer installs and torques it down, the best part is that it didn’t cost any more, just took about 3 weeks to get.

I myself use Equalizer and love it. The simplicity is what works for me. No matter what make/model one gets, at the end of the day 'proper' installation is key and does take some time re-adjusting to get it 'right' so YMMV

Blue Ox is even simpler! No head tilt to adjust, just measure ball height, bolt it on, measure bar length on trailer frame, bolt on the cams, and adjust the chain length until you get the proper distribution. Bolt it once, adjust with chain, doesn't get any easier than that.

When I was new to this TT and Towing, I had the dealer throw in a WD hitch as part of the deal and I didn't know what they carried and they ended up throwing an Equalizer. When I came to pickup the TT I noticed they had Equalizer and BO displayed but ended up installing the Equalizer. Not sure why they picked that over the BO and honestly at this point it works and I'm happy with it. Youtube are great to watch these WD hitches in action, but if you don't personally try it yourself you can't/won't know the difference among other brands. That being said, I have read here that if you don't properly link up the chains on a BO, you can get seriously hurt, is this true? i.e. the chain can spring back and hit you..

The Equalizer is what I run towing my 7k full loaded travel trailer. I researched everywhere I could and it's what I arrived at for a quality WDH. That said I've never used anything else and this is my first travel trailer. All I can say is the truck tows the trailer like it's one solid unit. I've never experienced sway of any kind

100% dead on accurate. I use a long handled 1/2" drive ratchet with a deep 3/4" socket, and don't take chances, because that wrench supplied is a knuckle buster. When I went to buy a replacement hitch it was a tie between the Equalizer and the BO, and it came down to price, I got a 1500# BO for less than the 1000# Equalizer. I would be right on the cusp with the 1000# bars. I got the BO delivered for $514. It was about $50 less. The cams did have me worried though, and they do snap hard when they release, but with the long ratchet, its not a problem.

This is what most have recommended for additional safety.
