Default Adding trailer brake

Hi all, I have a 2017 F150 XLT without the trailer brake, my question is what is needed to add the factory brake control to the truck? I have an enclosed 7x16 with dual axles. The truck tows fine I would just feel safer with the brake control on it. Does someone have a list of parts for this and once the parts are installed will I need to program anything with FORSCAN? Thanks in advance for any help! Also if I need to use FORSCAN what is everyone using to connect their laptops to the truck for programming?

FORScan thread tells you what adapter. I'm pretty sure you're towing illegally with that heavy of a trailer and no brakes hooked up.

Do you have the factory 7 pin electrical connector?
If so it’s a simple trailer brake controller plug and play with the Forscan entry.

You definitely need brakes for that size trailer. For my '20 XL, I used the following parts and enabled with FORScan:
  • JL3Z-2C006-AA for the brake controller
  • FU5Z-14489-A for the receptacle (left of license plate)
  • HL3Z-13A576-D for the wire harness (replaces 4-pin section with 7-pin)

I have the receptacles just don't have the brake controller, my truck came with the factory 7 and 4 pin

is there any other wiring harness required for the brake controller or is it just a straight plug in. Below is a link for the controller . Cost $134

I don't think so, I think the wiring is already there you have to plug it in and turn it on in FORSCAN, I ordered the controller off of tascaparts.com for that price, little more expensive with upping the shipping.

The requirement is to be able to stop within 40ft at 20mph. OP has a double-axle 7x16 enclosed, I presume it's got 3500lb axles and a GVWR of 7000lb. Could be lighter could be heavier.

The average for passenger vehicles is a 20-0 distance of 20ft. If you add 7000lb to the typical 5200lb Screw XLT, are going to stop within 40ft?

If you can, it would be at a full on emergency braking rate. Would you want to rely on the truck alone to bring it all to a safe stop?
