Max tow is not available with the 5.0L engine. As noted above, max tow requires the 3.5L EcoBoost engine. And if you get the 3.5L EcoBoost engine, you'll be amazed at the power and torque for towing. My 2012 3.5L EcoBoost constantly amazes me. It is now 6 years old with over 63,000 miles and still runs like a new one with just routine maintenance.

Don be afraid of the new-fangled twin turbo technology. Ford has been building turbo engines in the USA for over 22 years, so they know turbos. Nothing wrong with the 5.0L, but compared to the 3.5L EcoBoost it's antiquated technology.

u say truck will tow 10% of time. thats subjective
how many miles per trip, year, hwy, hills? A 2.7 can tow just fine but a 3.5 will tow better. same with payload ,etc. so if its. 30-50 miles once a month, meh not a big deal. but hundreds of miles on a hwy w hills, then go big eco w good payload from the start.ive had both 2.7 and 3.5 ecos. and the 2.7 will pull your tt very well. but the 3.5 will pull it far easier.

imakeco; There are three tow packages for 2018 F-150. They are called 53A, 53B, 53C. The truck you are looking to get has 53B and for your engine size, its towing is rated at 5000 LBs.

What dealer orders an XLT with BLIS and no tow package?! Makes no sense!
Thanks again!
I love BLIS and the collision control on my truck even without towing.

Are you trying to find a good deal on a close out, are you going to a bigger trailer later, do you plan to haul cargo?
It seemed like the 3.5 eco s-crew lariat is optioned pretty regularly with the 20s and max tow. Do not know about the XLT.

A lot of people give overkill advice on here but they are right about the 3.5 eco. That’s probably the best 1/2 ton setup out there even compared the Nissan Cummins.10% towing is a good portion of miles. I would even consider the HDPP if you plan to haul cargo or upgrade later.

HI

I have a 2017 with 2.7 eco extended cab and 3.73 rear end and I pull my 2013 Autumn Ridge 266rks no problem. I am like you. tow maybe 10 to 20 percent of time. Dry weight is around 5900 . with stuff in it, guessing just below 6500, its just me and mt wife.

We have lots of hill in Nova Scotia and I have absolutely no problem whatsoever. I use a Curt TruTrack hitch 17500 and inflate my tires 45 in the front and 50 in the back. No sway. I am very impressed with that engine.

In time, the only other thing I intend to do is switch the 275/65r18 to 10 ply tires.

I have a 2016 2.7 screw, 5.5 with tow package, 3.55 and towed a Springdale 260le was about 5200 dry and maybe close to 6000 loaded ( for a 2.5 week trip) used a a few weight distribution systems and settled in the Reese dual cam system and it was a great combo ( now have the wd system for sale) and did a 6000km trip from Ontario to Newfoundland and the combo pulled it fantastic with no sway . I just upgraded my shocks to Bilsteins and ran higher pressure in my tires .
2.7 is a great motor and when not towing great on fuel
