Can of worms...Restoring an 07 in memory of my grandfather
Hi all, I don’t post often but figured I’d start a log of my journey in fixing up an 07 F-150 owned by my grandfather, who owned a 10th gen before this, some OBS trucks and some bull noses over the years. He was truly like a father to me and growing up, I always wanted an F-150. This truck was inherited last year and I’ve just gotten around to getting it roadworthy.
Specs: 2007 F-150 SuperCab 6.5 bed, XLT, 4x4, 5.4 (aftermarket rear leafs for towing), Fiberglass Leer topper. It’s a Maine truck and it shows with bubbling rear fender, surface scale all over the frame, a small rust patch in the bed, etc.
The day I first registered it under my own name last year, the power steering leak grew too bad to drive it and it’s been parked in my yard since. Tried a new steering return line last summer and it didn’t work, BUT just last weekend I decided to return to the project and give it one more try before giving up on the original steering rack. I was able to tighten the line, 1/6 turn at a time, flipping the wrench over between turns and it doesn’t leak! So that’s one problem solved! However, after sitting, im noticing a pulsing in the brakes. They’re fairly new so I hope it’ll work itself out but who knows. Pop was not always kind to his trucks and they were put to hard work, carrying musical equipment (former president of the Bluegrass Music Association of Maine), and towing a camper. I don’t think it was ever washed while in his possession.
In relative order, the plan:
Power steering rack replacement-Not needed, fixed the old one
Exhaust heat shield-Replaced, old one rotted to nothing
Struts done last year
IWE hubs and potentially solenoid (May block off the solenoid and run locked front hubs until funds/time allow)
Shift linkage adjustment
02 Sensor
Replace third brake light in the topper
Exhaust manifold
Leveling kit
Injectors if the misfire in OD doesn’t go away
Potentially cut out fender well rust/add OEM style fender flares
Sand and paint frame
Wheels and tires?
We’ll see how far this project goes with time, money, and patience. Maybe I’ll just get it barely streetable for a year or two, maybe it’ll end up with a bed-off-frame restoration. Who knows, but that’s the fun of it! Pics coming soon, and I’ll log updates as they happen!

Side note, if nobody minds I’ll probably post updates on my Tacoma (2012 RCSB 4x4) and my motorcycle (03 Yamaha VStar 650 with a bobber kit on it)! Getting all terrains on the taco soon, maybe leveling it, and I know my bike could usr a new rear tire and may be swapping turn signals to LEDs.

Nice rides, we had an ‘01 Taco Pre-Runner. I loved that truck!
