Ok, the final mod (for now) is complete. Decided against the chrome bars in the middle of the grille. Went ahead and wrapped them up in 3M Gloss Black Metallic, same as the rest. Didn't take pics because the truck is crazy dirty again (sigh), but it basically looks like this now thanks to photoshop.
I like the all black better for sure... https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.f15...50cefdeb44.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.f15...d13ce72016.jpg |
Solid mod list and great looking truck! Keep up the good work, Alborn.

Well, I thought I was done upgrading this truck but it looks like I needed one more thing...
Just pulled the trigger on AMP power steps! Should get them installed over the weekend and I'll hopefully get some pics up soon after. |

I'm sure this is nothing new for everyone as these have been around forever, but this is probably the single best upgrade I've done so far! https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.f15...7faff51ef1.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.f15...051de511df.jpg |
Been thinking about those for a while now. Keep us posted on how they are working for you.

Cheers, Pete Since the last pics, the wrap on my grill has gone to hell. I pulled the trigger on a PTM STX Sport Grille and now have that installed. Changed a few other little things as well. Once I get around to washing the damn thing, I'm gonna post some updated pics. The ole girl has 140K miles on now :( |
For the steps, especially where you are, pressure wash the pins/hinges, and use a dry silicone or dry PTFE spray lube liberally on the pins whilst actuating them, easiest to just quickly unscrew the motor at the rear to move the step by hand.

I have a similar black truck, we're the tow hooks powdercoated or did you buy them like that. I'm actually having a hard time finding ones in red. I found ones that look identical for a newer style truck, wasn't sure if they fit, guess I'll be the test mule on that.. sharp truck, I want to do the steering wheel mod and engine cover mods now lol

Now, to answer your question. Those are the factory tow hooks, I just took them off and brought them into a local guy here that does powder coating. They were black/boring and starting to rust a bit, so I took the opportunity to add some color and have them done. They're extremely easy to take off and put back on. The guy here has his own little shop and charges stupidly low prices, so it was a no-brainer for me. I've had several things coated by him for my truck. |
