Oil change rant
Ok so I go to change the oil in the Ecoboost for the first time yesterday. I look in the book and see it takes 5W30 Syn Blend. Cool, that's the same oil I use in my mustang. Filter is an FL500S. Never heard of that one before, but I look at the filter and it looks like a normal oil filter. Small, but I guess it doesn't need a huge diesel filter.
I go to Wal-Mart and they are out of 5W30 Motorcraft Syn blend and do not have an FL500S. Then I go to O-Reily's and they don't have the filter either but they do have the oil. The oil is freggin $4.59 a quart! Wal-Mart used to sell this oil in the 5 quart jug for $12.50. Well since they didn't have the filter and the oil was expensive I put it all back on the shelf and head for Autozone.
They guy greets me at the door and asks if he can help me with something so I say yes I'm looking for an FL500S. He heads for the computer and tries to look up my truck...2011 F150 Ecoboost is not even in their system. The filter cross ref book is 3 years old so I know it's not going to be in their either. They do not have the filter either and the oil is the same price as O-Reily's.
Anyway /rant and I guess I'll be heading to the dealer to buy a freakin oil filter.

I had to go to the dealer to get the filter. I think I gave $4.50 ish for it.
So what used to be a $20 oil change is now $35 doing it myself.

Ok now I'm even more pissed. After scratching the hell out of my arm I got the filter off and this is what I see...
So the manual calls for a FL500S and this sticker says to use FL-2055. WTF???
Did I mention it's 98 degrees today ?
Also that little thing on the bottom that looks like a drain for the spilled oil that comes out of the filter does not drain oil so I had the drain pan in the wrong spot and got oil all over the carport.

It's been reported that Ford done some more evaluation/testing and has dropped the filter update as your sticker shows. They recommend to use the same as what came on your truck - FL500S. Now clean up that oil mess on the floor before the wife comes home.

Nice. Thank you! The wife got deleted 10 years ago. She was replaced with a Shelby mustang and F150 Ecoboost haha.

As I understand it...
Short answer: Ford currently specifies the FL500S for the 35L Ecoboost engine.

FL2055 REPLACED BY FL500S
FCSD has issued a Stop Sale & Return on the FL2055 Oil Filter for the new 2011 F150 EcoBoost engine.
· Ford Engineering Teams identified fit issues in using the FL2055, and have decided to discontinue this part number.
· The FL2055 has been replaced by the FL500S (Service Part Number AA5Z-6714-A/FL500S).
· Ford Dealership Parts Managers were notified of the change through DOESII message # 3593 on April 28, 2011.
· Ford Cataloging systems will be updated in the weeks that follow.
· The affected parts should be returned per the claiming instructions below.
-------
- Originally, Ford spec'ed the FL500.
- They thought they had an issue, dropped the FL500S, and replaced it with the FL-2055. This was along with an addendum in the owners manual and stickers on the filters.
- Then they reversed themselves again, dropped the FL-2055, and went back to the FL500S.

I put the fl-2055 on mine because I have 2 of them. All oil has went up numerous times this year. The oil from filter comes out the square hole in skidplate not the funnel they designed. ALL those other flimsy skidplates seem STUPID. The wife deleted and replaced with a Shelby is funny.
