Default Important (Misfire)

I took my truck in for a simple routine oil change/rotate tires. I got the truck back and my check engine light was coming on and going off so I took it back in they said the code was a misfire on cylinder six. I made an appointment for them to check what was wrong with it and long story short they said they exhausted all options and that I needed a new engine ($8,990). They said I have an exhaust valve leak and thats the reason. I find this hard to believe because wouldn't they need to take apart the engine to even find that out?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Simple cylinder compression test would tell.

I would definitely get another opinion, get a compression check and leak down test.

Have you ever noticed it missing before they worked on it?

I doubt they did a leak down test, but that would be the best to identify any potential problems. If they knew which cylinder was misfiring, they could have done a compression check in 10 minutes.

Thats a tricky one..that you didnt have a check engine light on and it wasnt missing? then you get it back and they say you need an engine...Wow..Oil change to an engine job..

I would argue the fact..that nothing was wrong with it when you brought it in? and then it needs an engine...

2nd opinion and what did they do to it..

Something seems off...at the very most wouldnt you need a new cylinder head assuming the engine still running with no damage??
