Little review on Sct canned and 5star tuning tunes.
Sct 87 great all around canned tune. Saw 1.6mpg improvement towing 6500# tt. Stock like shifting.
87 p/t 5 star tuning. Tons of torque! Better shift and tq coverter strategys over stock. Issues with tune banging gears when towing. Mike @ star could never get it right. When accelerating truck would build boost without shifting (unless wot) and surge and buck and squeal. Would bog and then puff clouds of black smoke when getting into boost.
Sct 91 canned. Great power over stock with better than stock shifting. No issues.
5 Star tuning 91 performance tune. Awesome power and torque increase overstock..tire frying performance. Run this tune at the track with great results. 13.7's . Issues with surging and not down shifting unless going wot.
Sct 93 canned. Awesome increase in power. Still lacking the torque a custom tune will provide. But great smooth tune with better than stock shifting.
Isues i had with the canned and custom tunes, seemed like my truck was dumping to much fuel. Giving the truck some gas to accelerate would result in big puffs of black smoke. Some of the tunes were worse than others.
With no way of data logging these tunes and see, make sure the tunes are safe. I have returned my truck to stock for some time now and sold my Sct device.
In the future i will do it again when i have the ability to data log. Little ease of mind. Sorry for the long post

So SoCal is the way to go then? At least that's what I'm getting out of this.
I tow a 6000lb tt at most, and normally run 89 octane w/10% ethanol (boo!) but like someone else said, I don't want to be married to 91 (I use that for towing, normally, so long as the station sells it if I run out).

I think you'll find that you will get more votes for Socal. It is the new thing. However, It doesn't get my vote. Good luck with your choice.

I ran the SCT canned tunes for 8K miles, mostly the 91. A significant increase over stock, mileage about the same as stock, better shifting than stock. I thought they were great until I decided to try SoCal.

I am currently running the SoCal 87, 91, and 91 5H. Great increases in HP and torque, much better shifting than stock. They will roast the tires from a 10 mph rolling start and get really good 2nd gear scratch and when the temp is below 80 will get a chirp on 2-3 shift. I always run 91 octane. Throttle response is immediate--you almost have to relearn how to drive again. No turbo lag whatsoever. After you drive them a few miles you get used to the new strategy. I recommend them highly.

Also seeing improved gas mileage (+1.5 to +2) if you can keep from goosing it.

I haven't even tried the 91 tow tune yet, but soon.

You are not the only one, but you didn't stick around long enough to try the MattH shifting. Oh so sweet under light throttle and an animal with your foot in it. However, I have the only MJX4 box in his customer base and the MattH has a 3-4 issue with aggressive throttle that needs some time to work out, so I am driving his tow tune for the time being. With this thread, I don't see Shawn having more time in the near future. LOL

Im running SoCal tunes. While its the only tune i had on the truck, its been nothing short of STOUT!
Ive tuned almost every one of the vehicles ive had and this SoCal tune just gets it done.

Started with the 87 L5: liked it. Responsive. Smooth. Good power but wanted more. Keep in mind, im used to fast cars......
Went to the 87 L5H and was impressed. Great power. NO boost lag. Great throttle response! Needed more.

91L5H: when you can mash the pedal at 10mph, spin the tires, bark 2nd, and feel a continued pull to 80mph (when i let off), THAT is what i was looking for!

Now, ill be looking for the 93L5H next!

And i have been data logging all of this. Everything has been very safe. No worries. Shawn is aggressive but not to where hes going to let someone blow up their truck.

Livernois 91v2 performance tune here. It's all fun and games until someone loses a motor.

Have you data logged to prove that yours is safe?

Wasn't there an issue with the data logging? Some data logging Socal were getting unsafe numbers and that was blamed on logging too many Pids. I'd guess that those that data logged LMS also logged too many PIDs. Just a thought. I know I never had my turbos bark or blow off mid acceleration with LMS. Probably the nature of the beast with Socal. Just wasn't for me.
