Agreed but even though they were ringers it's still impressive that they got 25 mpg at 60 with 5 people and camping gear.

[QUOTE=my67falcon;1225073]Too many variables to be honest but if you focus on total miles and time to determine average mph you will never figure out true mpg on an average trip. Idle time, towing time, stuck in traffic, ect will all affect your total speed and mpg but since these are not routine occurrences for most of us it isn't a good basis for mpg.

couldnt agree more. I stole one of your pics from another thread
me about 24 mph avg.
yours about 32 mph avg.

I know that I have over 4000 miles from my business log of towing 3000 lbs all in town with trips less than 1-2 miles. I have less than 500 miles highway unloaded. About 1000 miles highway loaded extremely heavy. The rest is unloaded. But you couldnt tell that from just looking at the avg speed.

Our speed avg's are close but mpgs are way different. I think avg. speed will only work when people do 100% highway runs.

btw even without the heavy towing on my old truck I'm up about 2-3mpg avg driving the rest the same. Couldnt be happier

Tested my theory by resetting the MPG on the truck today. driving with a light foot and the help of cruise control, i was averaging 15 MPG. With some light traffic and stop and go at college, it dropped to 13 and change. Still better than the 11 and change it was registering previously, i suppose.

My bad. Reading these forums on a phone, and having 58-year-old eyes is a bad combo. Sorry.

(and I'm supposed to think that some guy guessing that his 10,000 miles have been about 57.3% highway and 42.7% city DOES tell you something useful?)

In my FX4 Screw 5.0 on a trip over the Thanksgiving holiday, I managed 18 on the way to San Antonio, and 12 on the way back. Same route, same speeds. Difference??? Head wind!! I-10 is partially 70 mph, but most is 80 mph out west.

In and around town I usually get about 16-17 mpg. I can manage better if I coast to stops, and don't get on the throttle.

*Edit, Oh and I use regular 87 octane. Need to try to find a station that has 87 with no ethanol, if one exists.
