Fuel for a 5.0
I was wondering if someone can explain what is the best fuel to run in the 5.0. Ive been reading a little and not sure if its better to run premium or if regular is just fine.

Dazed and Confused
Do what is recommended in the manual. They engineered the engine and should know what is best. Some will say premium is better but have read articles that it is a waste of money is engine does not need it.

I ran 87 octane in my and averaged 17 mpg, when i run super i average 18.5 mpg. To me its worth the extra .20 cent for the higher octane, so i would suggest try them both and then decide whats best for you.

Thanks guys. I found this in my manual "3.7L V6/5.0L V8/6.2L V8 engines
Your vehicle will run normally on 87 octane regular fuel. Premium fuel
will provide improved performance." Guess the improved performance is the little better mpg.

I run premium and too get an increase in fuel economy. Enough to offset the cost difference.... I will say that I don't know if the increase comes from the dynamic timing system or my brain telling my right foot to not waste expensive gas... Run a few weeks with each keeping a log of all details and see what works best for you...

Sometimes the premium fuel is ethanol free, hence better mileage. Most places, regular has 10% ethanol content which does constitute crappier numbers. The higher octane rating sometimes is recommended for vehicles for optimal performance numbers (peak horsepower, etc.), not necessarily fuel economy. Regular 87 is perfectly adequate for the 5.0, and the cost effectiveness for paying for premium and seeing modest gains in economy will be a personal decision for you and your calculator. Where I live, $20 extra to fill my truck from empty with premium would buy me 55-60 extra miles approx (assuming generous 2 mpg advantage at best). No savings there.
