I'd be curious to see what happens when/if Ford techs figure out that there was an installed tune on it. Will it still be warranty?

Not to say at ALL that the tune was the issue, but they'll certainly point to that as the cause of the failure.

Anyone want to make a bet? I'll put it 20 bucks PayPal that they will not find the tune or not care and all work will be under warranty - IF he flashed the truck to stock before bringing it in.

That's the million dollar question. In the pic he posted of the oil under the truck, that's clearly taken on the highway/roadway (grooved cement surface) with the tires on a tow truck. So, did he have the tow take his truck to his house or to the dealer? Would he have had time to flash it back to stock?

Could be. I've floated valves through piston tops and the rods stay together. I have also seen rods sent through the oil pan.

There can be quite a large distribution of strength when it comes to steel. A small tail of the distribution could just be too weak for motor. I'm sure if this is the case, ford will thicken them up a bit and we will never hear about it except for maybe a part number change (can't mix and match). I've read about a dozen eco failures (usually lower mileage) and all have been rod through the side. I haven't seen pictures which would say little end let go, big end let go, or was it the middle.

hopefully Ford doesnt or isnt using PMR like they did in some 7.3s and i think the 6.7s those things started popping left and right with power behind them.

Yep. I keep my SCT tuner in my console in case I ever need to check trouble codes, switch to a towing tune or flash to stock for whatever reason.

Unless there's something I don't know about I was out of warranty a year in 4 months into the truck lol. I'm waiting for my buddy to finish putting the new big bore motor in my Mustang and then we're going to do the engine swap this weekend.

I only had one time in the barely over 2yrs I've had this truck where it gave me any trouble from rain in the intercooler. I haven't paid attention to too many of the other threads what should I look for when we take this one apart?
