recent trip
I just returned from a Class Reunion -
497 miles each way
Edmond, Ok. - Angleton, Tx.
2011 Eco Supercrew, Lariat 4x4, 3.55 limited slip, ARE tonneau cover, A/C on!
Trip down: 21.3 MPG
details: 87 octane (pure fuel), driving speed limit, no wind, and a one hour massive two mile an hour creep though Dallas rush hour/wrecks/etc.
Trip home: 19.4 MPG
details: 87 octane (ethanol mix), driving speed limit no traffic issues and a massive tail wind!
I think the ethanol made a huge difference, if it wasn't for the huge tail wind I expect the mileage would have been worse. Also, eliminate the Dallas creep I expect the mileage down would have been slightly better.
I also recently (early summer) took a trip to Minnesota driving 75-ish and the mileage dropped to 18.4 for the trip.

Just turned about 24 hours of drive time and nearly 1,000 miles behind the wheel of my new Scab, 4x4, 3.55. About 25% city, 15% highway, 60% rural roads (40-50 MPH with traffic lights). Averaging 19.7 over this time which I am thrilled with. I definitely try to get good MPG but am not afraid to get on it once and a while whether by need or just for a smile.
What I've noticed. She loves to run at 50 MPH and constantly will pin the instant MPG at 30 while doing so. This is where I make most of my mpgs. On my way to work I have a good 15 mile streach of 45 speed limit that if i time just right and people get out of my way (haha) I can hold 50 with no brakeing and almost flat terrain.
When this engine is cold no matter what you aren't getting good MPG. Also, I've heard some people complain that tiny variations make a big difference in MPG with this engine. I think this is true of all vehicles, but is much more noticeable when your gauge cluster has an instant MPG readout like ours. I find myself staring at it much more then I should and continually testing what makes it go up or down.

True story, But I am going to 'One-up' that..
Here in a couple months, I am going to have over 10000 miles(so truck will be broke in), I will have had S9000 in the CC, and it will be cool enough to ditch the AC, and I am going to set out in West Texas highway(flat) and burn a full tank of fuel, to see if I can bust 27mpg..I bet I can see closer to 30mpg, as my 60mile experiment shows..
I will do a full tank just to make it legal.
I have plenty of fuel economy driving history behind me as I have a Mark V Jetta 1.9, where I pulled down 52 mpg already.
Anyone doesnt have to believe me, I will post the results and Maybe even some of my tips, I am going to be an active member here and will even share some of my Modifications to the truck and the ecoboost engine..

I'm just at about 1300 miles on my '11 FX4 SCREW, 6.5ft bed, 4.10's, AIRAID CAI, and I have an A.R.E. Z series canopy on the back. I'm seeing roughly 13-16mpg on average in the city I'd say. If I do a combo city/hwy drive I've seen from 18-26mpg (though mostly towards the low end of the range). I've seen some wonky variations so I'm not sure if things will settle down once I hit that mystical 3000 miles I keep hearing about, but I sure hope so. I've got some new 18" Fuel Octanes and 34" Toyo M/T's going on next week (assuming Camburg finally ships my suspension, there has been a massive delay from Fox on the coilovers). I suspect things may vary based on that configuration as well. I'll post an update once I have my rig in its final configuration and get a chance to do a decent road trip.

I'm at 8500 miles now and averaging about 19. 2 months ago I took a trip from Indianapolis to the Michigan U P and back with three 200 lb guys and about 1000 lbs of cargo. Got 21.5 on the way there, but had a head wind on the way back. Ended up averaging 20.5 for the whole 1300 mile trip. That included Chicago rush hour traffic and lots of short trips from our campsite to different trail heads. The trip there was pretty calm, but we did drive through a thunderstorm. MPG was hand calculated, but within .1 of what the computer said.
XLT Screw, 4x4 off road pkg, max tow, 3.73, Firestone Destination LT tires(10lbs heavier per wheel than OE tires)

Yes, I drove the 3.73 eco during that Ford EcoBoost Tour where they come to you and let you drive the truck. The 4.10 most definitely pulls harder off the line but the steering feels pretty much the same. The 3.73 is no slouch mind you, but when I stomp on my truck with the 4.10 it's enough of a difference to know it isn't a 3.73. On the flip side, I don't think I'm seeing the same fuel economy as the guys with a 3.73. I'm still at about 1400 miles and hoping to God that once I hit 3,000 miles it will settle in and give me some better numbers. If not, I'm going to start checking for loose ground wires or something.
