Well bought my 2011 F150 Eco Boost 4X4 Lariat with 3:55 gears in it. The vehicle was loaded up and what I was looking for. It was a dealer trade and had 231 miles on it. I have taken 2 600 mile round trips and in three weeks I have 3000 on it. Driving like there are eggs under my gas pedal the best I can get is 16.5-17.1 mpg Nothing more......I sure don't get how you guys are pulling 20+? Also on must trips I run in the 75-80 mph range.
Where did all these idiots get the idea that they could get 20 or better miles per gallon at the speeds (70 or faster) they want to drive at? How many times does it have to be stated that 60 or slower will get the mileage the EPA has estimated?

I'm sorry about that. My mistake. I would think the 5.4 would be fine with the 85 actually, but it's worth a try with 87.

I figured he does the same driving I do, mostly rural roads, some suburban city, and gets 19.1, so if I consolidate my Flex, which with having fun driving mixed with some conservative driving was giving me 18.5 on average,(mostly fun driving with the EB) and can get that in the F150 with conservative driving, and also get rid of the F350 at the same time, I should save $700 a year between plates and insurance and still have the same outlay for fuel. Well, not all plans work out! With all conservative driving I'm lucky to have 16.1 LT avg. Currently the trip A is at 17, on Premium. I can't drive it any more conservative than I am now without getting the horses hitched to it.

I am curious to see of the people who are getting bad mileage are running down the road at 70+ mph right away when the engine and tranny are cold. I live 3 miles from town and drive 60 mph and average 15-16 on the way in. After about 5 or 6 miles or returning from town when the engine is warm, I am in the 20-24 mph. Everyone should be seeing an increase soon in mpg since it is warmer weather finally. Last week when it was 40 degrees out in the morning i averaged 17 for the week. the week before when the avg temp was 65. I average 19.4

I dont drive the truck any different than I drive the Hybrid. Easy acceleration, keeping rpms at or under 2000 until I reach 55, and pretty much try to stay at 55. I constantly feather the pedal to keep the green above the bar, and do see it stay pretty much below it until it warms up around 5 miles into the trip. My trip is about 44 miles one way, so it stays pretty warm. The roads are mainly 55 MPH and move pretty good, so I can maintain a steady speed. I haven't noticed any difference whether the temp is cold, warm, raining or dry, its pretty consistently Sh****. I did drive it hard one day, and man does that gauge drop FAST!

It's been a few years since we put the big block in my Olds but we set it up not only run on the "modified code" factory computer but to hit 16.7/1 at its leanest point with corresponding spark advance above 50 degrees as I recall. Granted carbureted old school tech but still not a bit of running too lean, no ping at all, ran cool, and 18-20mpg out of a carb'd BB Olds that with open secondaries has 400+HP and 500+LB.FT. and NO traction. Of course, foot to the floor you can watch the gas gauge move but considering the 68-72 BB Olds engines got 12-14mpg H/W, I was pretty pleased with the project. Still got it. Just don't drive it near enough. Only 28K miles proves that.

Reading the bold print......I am sure that driving 75-80 is NOT driving like there are eggs under the gas pedal !!!

When did all these idiots get the idea its cool to come on a forum and start calling people idiots?
The name calling / holier than thou mindset is getting ridiculous.

Using NO alcohol blend
Does anyone have any data using virgin gas without alcohol? There is one place near me that offers virgin gas for about .04 more per gallon and I'm thinking about filling up there next time. Most gas down here, especially WallyWorld has about 10 to 15% ethanol. Up in the corn belt you can get 20% ethanol, I try to stay away from those shysters. Stihl has now suggested to start using premium gas for their small motors because of the problem they have with ethanol screwing up their plastic fittings. The local Stihl dealer said though that regular gas will work as long as it does not have ethanol in it.
You can find non-ethanol fuel at www.pure-gas.org.
