Ecoboost Octane and Fuel Selection

That would be $18 more per fill up assuming a 36 gallon tank...

I dunno.... unquestionably an F-150 will work just fine on regular (i.e. 87 octane) gas. But it also unquestionably works better on 91 octane and Ford freely admits it. At 17K miles I'm at at the stage where I won't drive across town on the diagonal to get no ethanol gas, but I still get high octane. Seems prudent for a new car during break-in at least.

So premium fuel doesn't have ethanol? In Utah (high altitude) the cheap crap is 85 octane, while premium is only 91... I need to fill up for the first time (I have 500 miles on the old girl ) and am probably going to stick with premium for the life of my Truck.
Thanks for the good info OP!

I agree with you. I'm going look around today and see if a station even carries pure gas anymore.

But after reading the OP, I topped of my tank with 91, and will just consider it insurance. I run premium during towing season anyway.

If I have to pay 50 cents a gallon extra for premium fuel to "protect" my ecoboost then that puts me on par with the price of diesel. Now a diesel in my 1/2 ton sounds even better. Now all I have to do is hope that the added fuel economy from the diesel will pay for the price difference between the two engines and that Ford will get on the stick and offer one.
