Eco boost vs. new dodge 1500 diesel

I didn't buy my truck to race it. Being 6'5" and 260lbs, I'm a big fella. I like the room and comfort. I like the ability to haul my motorcycle where I want to go. I've been saying for years a small diesel in a full size pickup would be a hit.
The ONLY thing I hate about my truck is the fuel mileage. If it got 25-30mpg I'd be thrilled!!

IMO you can't compare quality between ford and dodge! I dont care what they put in that Ram its still a dodge and historys shows the truck falls apart rather quickly with a little time.

I think performance wise, it will depend on how much the Ram weighs. The Ram also has the 8-speed to help it stay in the sweet spot. My case in point, my 2008 4Runner. It has 120 less HP and 140 less ft/lbs of torque but stock vs. stock it will give my eco a good run. It also weighs way less. Thats how it can damn near keep pace with the eco. The 4runner only has a 5-speed auto but the ratios seem perfect for its v6.
If the ratios match the engine well and the Ram doesn't weigh too much, most folks won't notice there is less HP to work with on the ecodiesel.
The thing that turns me away from all diesels these days is all the EPA crap. I see the days of being able to delete all of that crap coming to an end. Not to mention, you can kiss your warranty goodbye. It's my understanding that the ecodiesel will also use DEF. It will have to get awesome mpg to offset the cost of DEF, diesel fuel, and possibly higher maintenance costs to compete.

The only way anyone wouldn't notice the HP difference between the oil burner and EB is if they drove like my grandpa all the time.

If you look at the Jeep numbers for the 3.0 diesel with 8 speed it is not a track winner but it is no slouch either. The Jeep is not that much less weight than the Ram so times should be fairly close.
0 to 60 was 7.8 seconds and the quarter mile was 16.0 seconds at 83.3 mph. It didn't mention what ratio rear end it had but I would think it was around 3.55. Not sure what difference the 3.92 ratio would do with those times. From what I have been reading the Ram mpg rating should be anywhere between 25 and 28 mpg, but no official word yet. The max torque is also at around the 2000 rpm mark.
The big question is what the towing mpg will be. Just a guess, but it will most likely be much higher than the Ecoboost.

I would definitely give the ecodiesel two or three years to get bugs worked out. I can't lie, the idea of getting that kind of mileage with a truck is very tempting. Especially once i start using my truck to tow every week. But the ecodiesel's highest tow rating is lower than my FX4 and I don't even have the Max Tow pkg. Buying DEF fluid is another thing to factor in. In the end, I like the power I have with my truck and I'm not even tuned. I likely be staying Ford.
