Eco boost vs. new dodge 1500 diesel
Ok I own a 5.0 f150..but down the road I'm looking at something different.. Reading up that ford is not having a f150 diesel any time soon..I've been checking out the dodge diesel.. For specs to compare ..
Dodge: 240 horsepower and 420 lb/ft of torque
Ecoboost: 365 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque.
So for strictly performance and price.. Is the Eco still the winner, matching torque of the diesel

Eco is a gas powered twin turbo (diesel like). To me I would rather own a Eco then buy a Ram 1/2 ton diesel. I am not going to pay more for fuel and more for maintenance. Nor would I trust the first year production of the Ram diesel. If I truly need the power of a diesel then I would be buying a Super Duty and get a truck made for towing/hauling. Plus who wants to listen to the constant clacking sound of the diesel and they stink. JMHO!!

I'm going to yes drive one when it hits the lot. It will definitely get smoked by an Ecoboost truck. Even if/when tunes for the diesel come out that would make it more fun to drive but probably still getting beat by stock ecoboosts.

I would sit my face in the pipe of a fully deleted diesel vs gas any day. A stock diesel with full emissions equipment doesn't smell any more than a stock gas ride. I think cummins still has a nice clacking sound but still silent in cab. 6.7 powerstrokes are super quiet by comparison.

If they get the rest of the drivetrain right, it probably will be a fierce competitor. I am also interested in seeing what they will do with a payload bump, if anything.
Tuning the trucks should produce great numbers.

I'm a surprised no bs has been spewed in this thread so far. No worries, its sure to come.
Anyhow, the hp deficit is huge. I'm surprised its so low, over 60 hp behind the modern base v6's. Even with a tune, its not going to make what the eb makes stock. The hp needs to fall out in the low 300's for it to be attractive. And I think they need to at least put a cummins badge on it for marketing reasons.
The highlight is that the mileage numbers are supposed to be 22/30 (using the diesel grand Cherokee, f150 eb, and explorer eb by comparison to get that). If that turns out to be the case, I'll be impressed, but the question becomes...are you willing to sacrifice 125 hp to get 8 mpg...(and suffer with Chrysler quality)?
