Ah contrair I do understand In the last 55 years I have bought just about every bottle of snake oil ever sold to go in, on or around a internal combustion [gas, diesel or turbine]engine. I have destroyed more machinery than most people have owned and ever so slowley learned from experiance. but I do understand that the younger generation will have to learn at there own pace. Snake oil is still being sold it just costs more now..Bubbabud

I'll up the tune on anything before I'll use a bottle of snake oil on/around an engine. Anything that will plug a leak will also stop up an oil passage, etc... Engines are mass produced and not all perform alike. Manufacturers have to account for this with a conservative tune that will work with all the engines regardless of how good gaskets line up or how smooth the air passages are in the intake/exhaust manifolds. So to do a custom tune based on the data your/my engine is giving us isn't going to hurt anything. Of course there is always that idiot that's going to push it too far and then wonder why it happened to them but those are few and far between I believe. Plus, yes there are freak things that happen regardless of what tune is loaded and nobody can predict that but to lump us all in the "snake oil user" category is a bit crazy in my opinion.

I think Bubbabud's reference to 'snake oil' isn't just those bottles of crap you see on the shelves of your local auto supply store. Pretty sure he is generalizing about the whole aftermarket scene, claiming to up hp, torque, and mpg. There is no question, some live up to the hype. Most don't.

I'm with Bubba on this one.

You CANNOT get more HP and more MPG at the same time.

I believe you can, atleast if you're not using the hp. Some hp is achieved by running efficiency which should include mileage. A fuel mileage based tune isn't our of the question either, for those who commute and don't even need the stock power levels.

You can on turbo diesel trucks...all day long. I tuned at least 8 and everyone got 1-2 mpg better with the tune.

Tuning is like overclocking: there are some of us that value stability and there are others that will happily put up with a lot of extra effort, overheated chips, more frequent crashes, just to get a little more performance. We each think the other group is foolish...

I can't see why anyone other than a drag strip junkie would mess with the tuning on an engine like the EB - do you really think the resources FoMoCo has to optimize this new flagship engine are going to be bested by some small shop? I doubt it myself....
