6.2 and 5.0 towing mpg

When towing, weight, wind and the shape of what's being towed are more impact full than the engine. As you can see, lighter loads 3-5k in open trailers don't hit mpg as hard... 6.2, 5.0 or 3.5tt.
Op you have an Eco, so why the question, do you want to trade or just asking theoretical

Never cared what I got towing, there are too many variables involved to really matter.
How a truck tows is another matter!

I have a 2011 FX4 supercrew 5.0 (3.73 gears, afe intake, and 5 Star performance/tow tune) with 6 inch lift on 35x12.5x20 and I'm getting 13-15 mpg mixed city/highway driving. If I do 65 mph on the highway with cruise control I can get up to 16 mpg.
Prior to lift and wheels/tires I was getting 18-20 highway mpg.

After doing the lift and tires I can't say that I have towed anything heavier than a small enclosed utility trailer with a motorcycle in it. There I was getting 9-11 mpg on the highway. It's not very adrodynamic so I guess the wind resistance killed the economy. In the summertime I will be towing my boat (25' with twin outboards) so I'll let you know how it goes. After I did the custom tune from 5 star the truck seems like it wants to pull a house! Certainly worth every penny!
