Default 5.0 11-13 Engines not Compatible with 14?

Was wondering if anyone knew why used 5.0 engines for a 14 show as not being compatible with 11-13 trucks and vice versa?

Have a yard telling me 11-14 are all compatible, but searching on car-part.com or ebay show they're not. It looks like 11-13 are all compatible but 14 only shows as being compatible with other 14 trucks.

Thanks in advance.

What year do you have? All I can tell you is if you have an '11 specifically, the connectors on the vct solenoids are different from '12 up.

Here's a thread if you read the 2 pages or so for an engine sticker was decoded from a '14 that was in a new to him '11 truck. So it must be pretty doable.

I have a 14. Thanks for the link I'll read through.

To minimize surprises, should probably stick with a 13-14 then. According to ford parts giant, engine wiring harness has different part numbers between 11-12/13-14. Also by '13, as far as know, the intake valve, oblong cyl and head gasket stamping issues were dealt with. Although definitely not all 11-12's have these problems.

Yeah I'm familiar with some of the earlier 5.0 issues. My engine build date is 12/10/2014, truck build date 12/16/2014, and has low compression cylinder 3. Bought it new, always took care of it. Assumed they'd have it figured by then but sh*t happens I guess . Ideally would like the latest engine I can get with the least miles.

Thanks for the harness info, salvage yard wrong about that.

Hmm..then maybe they didn't fix the intake valve issues with the revised '13 version. It's seems to be #3 or #7 adjacent cyl that let go. Same for the snapping coil bolts.

If the rest of the engine is good I'd be tempted to pull that passenger head. Head parts are cheap.

I just did a engine swap on 11/21/2021 from a 11 5.0 to a 14 5.0. The only thing that I had to change out was the Variable Cam Timing solenoids (VCT) (X4), because of the engine wiring harness was different. If I have to change out the VCT later on because it has failed, I will need to get the new “pig tails” to solder to the wiring harness and install the new VCT’s.
Here is a write up on how to change the VCT’s out if you have to:

YES!!! You can do the swap.
