What motor does Toyota use? If it's like the tundra v6 then the 3.7 has alot more hp and it makes the tq sooner and it hikes up fairly quickly rather than climb slowly!

Take a look here in another thread where we talked about the same stuff: https://www.f150forum.com/f70/towing...x3/#post994500 and the posts after that where I give a link to a Tacoma torque curve.

I'm not knocking the 3.7 engine and the 2011 F150. It's a fine combo for occasional heavy towing or frequent light towing. The quiet cab, 6spd "tow-mode" trans, higher payload, built-in brake controller, all make it superior to the Tacoma. I just don't think the F150's 3.7L V6 and the Tacoma's 4L V6 are all that different.

Default Interesting report... I also have...........

the 2011Screw w/ 3.7 engine and 3.73 rear with trailer tow pkg.... and it is also Candy Red..... I also have a Mustang.... a gold '73 convertible w/ 351 W engine.... alas... a 2barrel carb! but it does drive nice! Was interested in your tow report inasmuch as I am about to purchase a pontoon boat and will need to trail it..... weight will not be as extreme as your sitaution but am pleased to read your ease of towing effort and performance feelings! Thanks for the info...... and nice looking pony!

That was my intension of my review. But, do notice I was using a 91 perf/tow tune. I will probably towing the same combo on Friday with the 87 perf/tow tune. I'm excited to try out my new full slick combo out, my custom carb.

After that, I'm doing another review with the fuel most people use. Hell, maybe I'll tow back home on the stock tune to see how it does.

Awesome report! Subscribed to this thread...very glad to hear the positive reports on how the 3.7L does when towing. xoliex, I would definitely be interested in hearing a report on how your truck tows your car with the stock tune.

i didn't make it out to the track on friday because my carb wasn't finished that day until late in the day. i am trying to make it out for test n tune night this friday or make it out for grudge fest this saturday. i'll report my reviews on the stock tune next weekend.

on the way there, i'm going to use my 87 perf/tow tune, then if i'm feeling frogy and i'll use my stock tune. however, the one time i forgot to turn back on my tow/haul mode, i felt a difference when it came to acclerate out of a gas station and onto a road where the speed limit is 55mph. it lagged for a little bit until i realized at 30mph that the tow haul mode wasn't on. i put it back on and it down shifted to the approach gear for towing. also, i was super light footing it too.

Xoliex,
Great report, lots of good data, thanks. I got the 5.0 because I wanted the Lariat interior. If I had to do it again, I would get the 3.7 in a fancied up XLT. I tow regularly but a little less weight than you pull. It sounds like the 3.7 would have done a fine job for me.

So no problems pulling 5800 lbs - that's encouraging. I figured that I would have to go V8 or eco for my twice per year tow with the boat, or the occasional jaunt to a car show. Close car shows are generally no problem to drive to, but we might go to some out of state shows in the near future, or possibly World of Wheels next winter. And no way this one is going to see any long trips or snow, or another drag strip for that matter:
