Default Yes 5700

OK so... if the GVCW is rated for 11100: 6800 load plus 5700 towing capacity... that equals 12500 which is greater than 11100? What up with that?

The tow package option has 6800 loading for truck... but the towing is 5700... apparently my question above was not clear.

GCWR is max cumulative. (11100#)
Curb weight empty 5100#
Max trailer 5700#
So at max trailer load, you legally only have the capacity to haul 300#, including you.

That is also disregarding load distribution, but that's a whole 'nother Oprah.

****Edit - The numbers you gave looked fine, as they don't exceed the 11100# limit. But that is a full load.:-)

My experience is a little different, with my quad, water, wood, DW, and junk; we sit around 6500# with just the truck, and 3800# of trailer (total, 10300#).
The 3.7 so far has been more than adequate. The real test is this summer, to Grand Canyon, Yosemite, and Glacier National Park. 6000 miles in 16 days. (No quad or water for that trip though, so GCW will be just under 10K)

My F150 has been sad the last 4 months cuz it sits and sits and sits since i've been TDY. She just waiting for me to go home and drive her around again since the wire just washes her and drives her to the grocery store twice a month.

and i'm sure she's begging to pull the mustang back to the race track!!!

Back to the towing reports......

I was hauling a 5'X10'X2'(tall) steel utility trailer with a Yamaha Apex in it, so approximately 1500#. I also had my Ski-Doo 1200 in the back of my truck with the ramp assembly, call it 800#.

The truck was able to haul a the load, and 2 people in the truck, in 6th gear, at 70 mph, no problem. This include pulling a slight grade (the Seddons Corner Escarpment), into a slight, maybe 10mph headwind.

My buddy who drives a 5.3 GM was very impressed. He doubted his truck would have even held sixth gear. I know a little bit of this capability is due to the intake I installed which bumped the low end torque a little.

I've got to add, that the folks who say the 3.7 is low on torque, are just making assumptions. I am blown away at the power from this small V6. I t also holds top gear better than either my Tacoma, or my Dakota V8 did. I could not be more pleased! 300 horsepower, is 300 horsepower....

Default Tuner's/Intake

I own a 2011 stx 3.7 L 4x4 super cab and was contimplating trading it in for the 5.0 becasue of the high revs. I am used to driving a manual transmission in my old truck so i never let it get over about 3,000 RPMs. After reading these posts i am thinking that the truck can handle the revs better than I originally thought. I tow a bass boat and it likes to shift alot, but tows quite well. It kind of bothers me with all the shifting. I am now wondering if i should get an intake or tuner to increase low end torque.
Do these aftermarket products void my extended warranty????? What brands should I look at? Who installs these things?

Any feedback would be appreciated!!

This thread has been very helpful.

I use 5 star tuning. I mainly use his 87 tow/performance tune.for towing and 87 economy for regular driving.

I normally always use town/haul mode but its only needed for hills. I towed this weekend without tow n haul mode and it does fine. I always use to tow haul before just to accelerate at the same rate without it but that just used more fuel. I just accelerate like people would with 5k should.

I think you answered your own question. It does take getting used to the higher revs under load, but it will last a long, long time most likely. Who knows what effect a tune will have other than possibly voiding your warranty.
As for an intake, it is an excellent upgrade, but you they are not quiet, and very nice throaty, rumbly sound, but not quiet.
