Now I'm wondering what octane rating is available at Stop & Shop
--where I normally fill up - 10c a gallon off per $100 of groceries
I usually just get 87....I've never seen 85 anywhere around here & woudl not buy it

I think the midgrade is 89, but might be 91....premium might be 91 or 93
I guess I might as well take a drive & check what octanes are available

But on the sites I've been looking there isn't a Performance Tune for 89 ?

There's no sense buying a 91 octane Tune if its not available her or is the "premium" fuel here = too expensive

Just confirmed at the 4 gas stations near my house
87 Reg, 89 Mid-grade, 93 octane is premium .32c per gallon more
I'd fill up w/89 -not that much more
But on the SCT tuner I see options from Vendors for 87, 91 & 93 Tunes
Nothing for 89 octane ??

You have to get a custom tune, that way you can select what ever you want depending on location, it's what I did because I sometimes travel and all octanes are not readily available in some places. To be honest the canned tunes blow compared to custom, top 5 on my device are all 5*, last one is MPT.

Yeah, I just didn't see it listed as an option on the drop down lists when you buy the device
Now I'm wondering if there is that much of a Power boost going from 87 to 89
Going from 89 to 91 I thought would be a good jump in Octane
Not looking for an miracles, just hoping to get some better oooomph

I drive about 3800 miles a year, just under 14 mpg in the Winter & close to 18 in the summer
So maybe 238 gallons a year averaged out, 32c more for 93 would only cost me $76 more a year....a drop in the bucket
But if 89 & a custom tune does the trick that works for me

Now I have to look at what I want/need for tunes...I may need more
Seems cheaper to buy them w/the device then afterwards.....MPT offers 10 Tunes for $50 more....but that means getting rid of stock tunes (but you said they "suck")
Hmmmm...any way to "offload" tunes from the device to the PC to save them ?
Always more questions....
Thanks !!

Put a Call in to Stage3, they answered all my final questions
Pulled the trigger on the SCT
Now I have to wait
I'll try the canned SCT tunes 1st, then I'll try the Custom Tunes
I may just run 93 Perf in the warmer months.....won't cost that much more
Thanks

The canned tunes do suck compared to custom but they are a little better than stock. Worth the cost of the device? I wouldn't say so.

When you get custom tunes they send them via email for you to load off your pc to the tuner, the stock tunes are still there just deactivated.

So save them in your favorite place, the device automatically saves the stock tune so you can revert back if needed. I put mine in the same folder on my pc with all the custom tunes.

You will get the manual with your tuner but while you wait for it to arrive here is a link to it online. http://www.sctflash.com/PDF/X4Manual_002.pdf

Always more questions....
Thanks !!
