I recommend rockford fosgate speakers. I put 4 T1682 power series speakers in my 04 lariat super crew and they rock. I also paired them with a set of tweeters from Rockford you will need the 3/4 inch to go in the front door openings. But to sweeten the deal I hooked up the doors to a Alpine v-power series amp model mrp-f300. Awesome sound!!!!!!

Check out www.techronics.com for good prices. Thats where I usually end up ordering mine for best prices, crutchfield is good for research though. And don't weigh too much on two way vs three way, you won't notice a sound quality difference. I'd say get a good pair of Infinity 2-way that have the tweeter mounted separate from the cone tho still suspended in the middle there. They will have a crossover to mount but it will give better quality than normal two ways and easier to install than components. Oh and there aren't many 6x8 out there, but with a little sheet of plastic of wood you can put in any size by making your own mounting plates. I have 5-1/4 in mine.

Also I would recommend that you look on ebay for speakers too. You can find some great deals there and Amazon.com usually has some as well. I agree with using Crutchfield as a resource, the outfit my ride tool will tell you exactly what will fit and not fit in your F150. One thing to keep in mind also is that you can get decent deals in going with a component system, but I prefer to pay a little more and get exactly what I need.

If you do though go with an amp and put tweeters in, wire it so that your tweeters run off of your deck and all your 6x8's run off the amp.

If you guys are upgrading just speakers and no sub, your gonna want high end component systems so they quality increases so much you don't care about the lost bass. Infinity, Polk, Rockford, etc is what you want, not cheap *** Pioneer, Kenwoood, and Sony crap.

Of course this is just IMO, trying to save you from being disappointed.
I find it hard to believe that $70 a pair Pioneer 2-ways could sound worse than these stock Ford speakers:

Now if you want to debate spending more for a set of Boston Acoustics or Infinity Kappas, go ahead, but I can't imagine that any aftermarket speaker will sound worse than the garbage that is the stock F-150 speaker. I am considering Pioneer 6x8s myself, with Kappas as the 2nd choice if I want to pay $280 to upgrade instead of around $100.

^haha where did you get them POS? a 1990 that has been underwater for the past few years? yea, stockers are crap paper, but they don't look like that. They look like normal speakers nowadays. and yea, the cheapo pioneers will sound just as bad if not worse. only thing you might gain is a little high range clarity, but very little. Not worth it for the mid range you will lose and the completely lost low range. If you are upgrading speakers, make it worth it with the tweeter separate from the main cone and preferably a crossover. not saying the way top end, but a least a good audio brand in the mid range like $150 plus. It will be worth it.

No problem man. I love good sound in my ride. The rockford are honestly the way to go. I saw some on eBay for a sweet deal. Also I would recommend making sure your deck is up to date. I swapped out my deck for a Alpine Ida-w404 it fits the double din and the touch screen is awesome. You can also go with the full touch without the volume **** with the ida-w407. These are great decks and half the cost of this year's touch screen. All you need is the bluetooth module and you can use your phone to stream music or apps on your iPhone. You can also make calls through it too.

What can I say I love my set up and would recommend it to anyone. Next step for me is a custom box and a subwoofer.

Good luck and let us know how things turn out.

I hear you on the upgrades ... with my new FX4 I'm definitely upgrading the speakers (leaning towards Polk MM series) first. Then I need to decide if I really like the Sync feature or not. If I do then get an amp; if not, then chuck the entire factory HU and get something nice.
