No clue. They don't provide any answers as to the cause they just repair or replace the unit and charge you $100 if you are out of their warranty period.

Glad I haven't updated mine in a while. Still works great. Reason I say this is because coming from my computer back ground building, programming, repairing and everything in between I've seen my fair share of firmware updates brick pc's to the point of having to wipe the system clean and start with a fresh install of the operating system.
Good luck all with this problem, in my opinion SCT SHOULD repair or replace at no cost and that includes the cost of having to have new custom tunes made to accommodate replacement devices due to THEIR ERROR.
