I took the DeeZee off that I had installed thinking the OEM was too expensive.

I just installed the OEM yesterday and it works great!

Good to hear.

After going with the Baricade I was tempted to get DeeZee, but didn't want to run into the same problems. I have the OEM now, but need to paint it before installing.

i have the deezee version on my '13 and while it does what it is supposed to it is sooooooooooo slow. i mean more than 30 seconds for it to fully open, and that is when it doesn't stop part way.

Sounds like all the aftermarket versions don't work as well as the OEM. Hope to have mine installed over the weekend, will post back.

I bought the Ford part. You are right, it does have a drop in the last couple inches but its a much cleaner install than the DeeZee.
For the $ the DeeZee works great, its just a matter of what you want. Personally I like it out of site so the extra $30 was worth it.

Default Alignment with the shock

I don't know if anybody noticed but the shock does not allow the tailgate to go down all the way. It seems to be short by about half an inch and it shows it in the photo on Americantrucks.com. doesn't seem to affect it too much but just from personal experience in life I would think this could cause damage to the tailgate. Just wondering if anybody else has had any experience with this. Mine seems to work fine though It has a slow release and I guess that's what I bought it for. Just a little too slow though but for 40 bucks it's not bad.

I wouldn't worry about damaging anything on the tailgate. If the shock truly did not let the tailgate go down all the way, then any weight on the shock will be applied directly to the shock. The shock and shock connection points are going to fail well before anything on the tailgate.

Though for both the Barricade and OEM tailgate assist my tailgate went down all the way.
