Leveling Kits FAQ
#572
Looking for some help, recently had a 2 inch level and 35s installed by cap-it on my 2021 f150. As soon as I hit 70 km I get a shaking steering wheel. Took it back, explained the situation and they rebalanced the tires. Same issue, probably worse as soon as I take it out. I had this problem on previous levels and just dont get it. I have a hard time believing everyone is super into levels and 33-35 inch tires with a shaking steering wheel and just accepts there truck drives ****ty now. what am I missing here? How is this so difficult are these shops this bad at this mod? Anyone have any experience that can weigh in and give me some advice I can give these people on what they are doing wrong? Thanks in advance.

For a steering wheel wobble at 70 kph sounds like an out of balance. Take to another shop to check. I would also ask the steps they went through when installing the kit to see if there could be anything misaligned during reinstall.
Personally, I had a Rough Country 2" level kit installed and then had alignment.. I have stock tires (275/65R18 Michelin Defenders) and have had no issues at any speed.
You have multiple variables, which does not help when trying to diagnose a problem. Ideally, change one thing at a time and check for issues.

Lots of cool info in this thread, thanks for what’s been shared here. I am trying to understand how to level the front of my truck, without losing ride quality. I don’t really go off-road much, lots of local or highway miles, so ride quality on the road is important. I want to do it right but, and I am willing to pay to have it right, I am having a hard time determining which coilover replacement kits provide a 2-2.5” increase in height, but maintain or improve ride quality. Or is that reasonable to expect? Truck is a 2020 3.5 EB Lariat, SCREW, FX4. Don’t really tow, and very rarely have a heavy load in the bed, just occasional stuff for home projects.
Thanks!
Thanks!

To level or not to level...that is the question.
First off, it is super annoying to see my truck's front end pointing in a downward direction. I am not a mechanic and simply just love my truck and getting into different aftermarket components/upgrades and such. So, I had read Lenn's thread and some questions I had were answered. Other questions I have are...does this do any harm on suspension components? Does it affect towing/hauling feature? I have the tow package and assume the reason why the back end is raised higher than the front, is to offset the load limit as the trailer bears down onto the hitch receiver. In closing, I just want to have a leveled off appearance if possible. I have a 2016 F150 XL RWD V6 3.6L.
Looking forward to any responses and TIA!

My 2wd XL as stock. No tow package or even any hitch other than the bumper, still has a fairly hefty weight capacity,
I do not tow or haul anywhere near that much so leveled the front a bit. Only 1 3/4 inch via Icon 2.5 coil-overs,
"does this do any harm on suspension components?" some depending on who you ask. It does limit down travel in the front, the UCA will be nearly or slightly interfering with the coil. As upgraded UCA's were in my to buy list that was dealt with.
"Does it affect towing/hauling feature? I have the tow package and assume the reason why the back end is raised higher than the front, is to offset the load limit as the trailer bears down onto the hitch receiver." can't say as I do not tow. But I would think the overall handling benefit I got with upgraded coil-overs/rear shocks/UCA's would help.
Note I did NOT go the spacer route, but did a full suspension upgrade for road/trail handling performance. KM

Fitting a spacer has no major effect on the 'ride', you are only increasing the relative distance from the wheel mounted parts to the body mounted p[arts
The coil and shock performance are not affected.
For 4WD, the driveshaft angle is the biggest factor, go for 2.25" as max height increase. From trawling the sites, most people have not had an issue with this increase in front height
