Recently placed a factory order for a 2022 F150 XLT with the 3.5L TT engine. Having always owned trucks with a V8 engine - doing an exhaust mod was always done (cat back with dual exhaust) and loved the sound. Now I know that a V6 engine (Turbo charged) will never sound as good as V8 (NA) - but I need the exhaust to make some sound. Spoke with a local performance exhaust business and was advised not to bother with any exhaust mod as the TT V6 engine will only produce a very raspy sound (I don't like raspy)
Recently went on the MBRP exhaust website and found a cat back system with dual exhaust (side exits) for a 2021 F150 with the TT 3.5L V6 - Really nice looking system and listening to the video that system really sounds good with that engine.
I guess, I'm looking for some assistance/guidance as to whether or not my local exhaust shop is correct (waste of $'s for the sound that you'll get) or if someone has an exhaust system on their TT 3.5L V6 that they really like the sound/looks of photo from the MBRP website
It doesn't sound good with a catback i'm afraid, and if people could stop pulling their thoughts out of their *** about how V6's can't sound good, you can work out why, it is what it is. The crappy sound from this particular V6 seems to be due to cost saving uneven length headers, if you can replace those with even length then paired with a nice cat back, you should get a decent sound from it.
If it came out my *** or not, I do think V6 sound good. Different yes, in the same way a 4/2/10/12/or more, cylinder engine sounds. It has more to do with fire order A V8 has a distinctive beat due to 2 cylinder firing on the same bank is sequence,. Example Ford V8 cylinder 1-3 on passenger side 5-6 driver side, the V6 swaps side to side evenly.
Some people like me do not mind the even, rhythm-less sound, and prefer to hear what the engine sounds like.
agateblack, if you want a different sounding system, listen to the many clips posted in forums and on the internet, choose what you like. Far as "raspy" again only you can choose.
My 2.7 with a full 4 inch no resonator Pypes catback,
If we're talking to/about people who understand exhaust sounds and not those who only compare everything to a V8, then that sounds good, unfortunately the Ecoboost is a boring sounding V6 as far as V6's are concerned, but it is what it is, being turbo'd really takes a lot of character from the sound, but again, even-lengths can help i think.
It's not a fair comparison, but it's an example of what a good V6 can sound like.
Yeah an even length header may sound better, will be more efficient with the turbos, but a very expensive custom build on an3.5 Ecoboost, impossible with a 2.7. I am very familiar with high end V6 turbo sport cars, been attending racer at Road America for 50+ years now.
! more thing about a Ecoboost is the stagered lengths from the exhaust turbines to the Y joining section, the downpipe sides are un-equal, look at the latest Raptor solution! KM
