[Easy Guide] - Disable key in ignition door chime
#71
This was a great tip, I just did it in my 2019 F150. When trying to remove the wire I used an ice pick slid it down the connector from the plug side. That released a little latch that could not be seen, I was then able to pull the wire out. On my 2019 the chime does not chime when the key is in the off position and the door is open. But the chime does work when the pick-up is running and the door is open. I plan to remove the door panel and find the correct wire to disconnect in the door latch switch, to make the pick-up think that the door is still closed. I have done this before with Chevys and it has worked well.
Thanks
Thanks

Shot in the dark here.
I did the mod as described in the earlier posts in this thread on my 2016 F150. Thanks.
However I have traded that vehicle and now have a 2016 F250 6.7 and wish to similarly mod it to be able to leave the key in the ignition without the chime sounding. Can anyone point me in the right direction for the procedure on a 2nd gen F250 SD
I have already done exhaustive searches in multiple F250 forums without success. The blank stare I have gotten from two different dealers.was also disappointing.
Any help you may have will be much appreciated.
Thanks.

So, I was unable to figure out how to get the damn wire to release and ended up cutting it instead. For those that might follow, can someone please explain how to release the f*)(&^ing wire?

Ok here is a video of how to properly and more importantly NON DESTRUCTIVE way to disable the key in/door open chime.
If you feel the need to hack up your wiring harness as outlined above by all means do so, but don't go crying to the dealer or to any forum because you screwed up your truck.
I only made this video to guide people to the proper way without damaging their vehicle.

I totally hear you Alt255.
My preference would be a little 'sleep button' that turns off the chime for one minute, then self-cancels and the chime is all back to normal.
I built that item..... and installed it and it was all working good.... in testing. I was thrilled.
Then I knocked my instriument cluster off the table and it fell 30 inches to the floor.
Now the speedo and tach don't work. Since 2014, no speedo. Bummer.
So I had a different kind of destruction.
This is a perfect example why some folks (99.9% of new truck owners!) would prefer a solution where they don't take stuff apart.
Regarding tripping the door latch method.
Folks should TRY it. Close the door and bump it agains the 'closed latch' and test what happens.
You bump it slowly against the latch.
Nothing happens.
Bump it a little harder. No problem.
Do a 'pretend mini-slam' (but don't get carried away).
The latch can take a pretty hard hit, it's not 'fragile'.
You'll see when you actually do it, that this method can be used SENSIBLY.
No idiot is gonna slam the door.
But keep in mind, some OTHER idiot, who doesn't understand why your door's not latching - may think he just needs to slam it harder, and harder.
So use good sense whenever your latch is tripped.
