[Easy Guide] - Disable key in ignition door chime

Easy to follow guide on how to do this simple fix, completely reversible!

This will stop the "open door chime" when your key is in the ignition and not running. Nothing else will be effected.

The vehicle pictured is 2013 F150 Platinum. :cool:

What you need:

• 15 minutes
• 5.5mm socket (7/32 will work)
• 7mm socket (9/32 will work)
• Small screwdriver to push in plastic tabs

Or you can just trip the lock latch with an ink pen to the door closed position, to reverse simply pull the door handle as if to open the door.

Sometimes it pays to not over think things. :thumbsup:

Umm no, the door ajar switch is located inside the door latch, if you trip it to the closed position it WILL stop the door open/key in chime. Ford vehicles, (ALL of them) have been that way since the early 90's. If you can't make it work then you have an electrical issue that needs to be checked. Or maybe you didn't push the latch all the way in?

Not trying to steal the wind out of your sails but it's a FACT. Nice write up by the way but completely unnecessary.

Excellent writeup. I wish all writeups had this level of pictures with notes. It also gave me an idea how to use a spare switch I've already installed. Instead of removing the wire from the connector, I can cut it and run the wire to my spare switch on the console. So if I want to have the door open while doing something with the key in, I can just hit the switch on the console. I may do that...

So you would butcher your wiring harness rather than to just trip the lock latch to the closed position?

Your not on the same plane of existence as most people.

Ok here is a video of how to properly and more importantly NON DESTRUCTIVE way to disable the key in/door open chime.

If you feel the need to hack up your wiring harness as outlined above by all means do so, but don't go crying to the dealer or to any forum because you screwed up your truck.

I only made this video to guide people to the proper way without damaging their vehicle.

I am going to be doing this for sure. I do however like the idea I an inline switch, but until I need more than one i don't want to start cutting the dash. For now, I always have a pen in the car, this will do for whenever I have the door open for a while. As for those guys who use their trucks for work and are constantly in/out, the pen method is just not efficient. I thought the OP did a good job describing how to do this non-destructively and completely reversible.

This could end up damaging your door lock when you forget to pull the handle to close the door, I'd prefer if people didn't damage the vehicle when disabling the chime. Thanks
