I haven't had a need for, or even given any thought about installing a CB in years. A recent trip from s/e WI around Lake Michigan while enroute to Ann Arbor MI through a white out, lake effect, snow storm made me wish I had a CB to communicate with those around me.

I recently mounted a Cobra Model #75 WX ST in my console much the same as Seleen331 did. Installed Midland #18-258 Thru Glass antenna on rear window. So far so good. I really didn't expect long range communications therefore my expectations have been met. I would rather have used a magnetic mount antenna on the roof but we all know that aint gonna happen.

All installed.

SWR of 1.3 so I can't be upset given it's only a two foot antenna. The four foot arrives tomorrow, I'll tune it and put it away for long trips.

That is a

In response to johnday: transmit range is bout 2-2 1/2 miles right now. I had to ground the antenna to get any sort of decent SWR reading. I had issues tuning the antenna. When I got a SWR of 1.1 on channel 1, channel 40 would be around 1.5. Similar thing on the other end. When I got channel 40 down extremely low, channel 1 would be higher. I finally went right down the middle and tuned it on channel 20 to 1.2 and left it alone. I guess that's ok but it doesn't satisfy my OCD.

A friend suggested I take an appropriate sized plate of 1/16" steel coated in PlastiDip and secure it to the roof using clear silicone sealant. Then use a quality magnet mount antenna. Hmmmmm...Any ideas or opinions??? I had great success back in the day with a mag mount K40 on the roof of whichever truck I was driving at the time.

That gets out far enough for me. 1.2 is pretty good, I wouldn't fret over that at all.

On my '12, I used a "LilWil" magnet mount, got my SWRs down to 1.3, and used a permanent marker to mark the roof so when I removed/replaced it, the same spot could be had. On flat ground, I got out a couple miles.
I'd be careful with that silicone. Never heard of it damaging paint, but I have heard it's not too aluminum friendly. Although, that is a good idea if the silicone could used.
I also recall I saw somewhere, that a guy removed his headliner and fastened a steel plate to the inside of the roof, and used a mag mount. Personally, I wouldn't do it.
Can't recall the company, but there is a steel mount that bolts up to the high mount stop light housing, that can be used for antenna mounting. It's pretty expensive for what you get. If I can find it again, I'll post it up. I will say, I thought it looked like crap as far as appearance.

Found a couple;
