This may not be for everyone but, I grew up with CB's...installed out of sight in center console with removable modular components...

That's great! Would you mind sharing the model numbers for the components you used? How's the range?

Radio is a Uniden CMX760 and antenna is a 28", 50 watt, through the glass center loading unit both from ebay for around $200 total.
Have not had a chance to verify range or reception other than tuning antannae to approx. 1.3:1 swr.

Saleen S331--> nice setup for the radio & antenna.
Hoping not to burst your bubble but there's not a snowball's chance in hell that radio is 50W. The antenna may be rated for that. The transmitter output power for the Uniden CMX760 is 4 Watts & Audio Output Power (max) is 3W per Uniden.
Betting that even peaked & tweaked by the best radio shop in Cali~~that radio will push a max of 11Watts. But it w/b great for the local commutes & to jaw-jack w/ the Big Riggers!
For now I'm 10-10 & copyin' the mail!

Understood Delta...that is why I stated 'antenna is 50 watts' and agree all cb's are 'legally' relegated to 4 watts...this unit is for sh__s & giggles...I am 10-8!

This is interesting! I've always thought that the through-glass antenna's were not worth the packaging they're sold in, especially on glass applications with a rear window defroster? I have no previous experience, though. That is simply pure conjecture from what I have read on the interweb.

Please keep this thread posted on the performance of your setup! The SWR reading is solid so I'll be interested in your feedback on range. I've always wanted to put a CB in my truck (had one MANY years ago in high school before cell phones became popular) but don't like most of the mounting options for the antenna.

That's Awesome! I grew up with CB's all around. My dad was real hot on 'em. Had one in his '66 Fleetwood and then his '76 Fleetwood. But his baby was in his '74 Ranchero. I had one in my, ummmmmm, '73 Vega GT, then a '73 Vega wagon I customized. Miss those days. Who remembers Breaker, Breaker with Chuck Norris and the 4x4 Van?

I, too, am wondering about that through the glass antenna.

I just picked up a Midland 75-822 to use in the truck and need to get an antenna setup for it. I was just going to go with a two foot firestick on the front driver's side.

How were you planning to mount the firestick?
