Default starter cranks when it wants to.

98 f-150 supercab 4wd 5.4L. The only way to crank the starter sometimes is to jump/bridge the posts on the fire wall solenoid. After 4 years and 2 solenoids I think it may be the key switch. The shifter on the column is getting sloppy after 145K miles. Any ideas? Jim H.

I think you are on the right track. change out the switch and that should do it. There is alway the possibility of bad wiring in the column so check that first. They are cheap I would just go ahead and replace the switch anyway.
