smokey!
well i have a 1992 f-150 302 auto when im driving around my hunting lease 5-10mph it burn oil and smokes out the tailpipe. but i when i gun it a lil bit the oil clears up and is fine till i start idling for a period or cruising at low speeds and starts sputtering i would say. the engine has 168k on the odo so any input wud be great idk if i should be lookin for another 302 or rebuild this one. also when im driving down the road it doesnt smoke just if i get stuck at a light and idle for a few mins it will smoke again upon me gaining speed thanks!
Pour half a bottle of Bar's Leaks into the crankcase and run the truck for a while. More than likely the smoking is due to hardened intake valve stem seals. The Bar's Leaks will soften the seals and they may begin to work again. That scheme worked quite well on a 1981 Fairmont 302 that was smoking the same way as your ride.We will hope the oil-contol rings are not worn out, not too likely in a 302 with that mileage piled up.
Take a look at the PCV valve and make sure it's not stuck open.
Other than that, pull the rocker covers and replace the seals.

are you sure you're burning oil? sometimes even a bad fuel mixture can cause smoke out the pipes. just for piece of mind, check for engine codes, if theres an O2 code, that could be your problem. not saying you're wrong, just saying its not always what you think. as for your sputtering, could be caused by bad fuel mix, and if its been awhile, replace your fuel filter
thanks for the response guys. i ordered a new well rebuilt ecm today will be in tommorow my f-250 with the 460 e40d had the same problem replace distributor wires plugs cap rotor then took shot in dark and it was ecm so im goin for that. but im goin to use the bar stuff also.
