OP. Welcome home.

long tubes... SW are nice but $$$$$$$$$$$!, If you live where road salt isn't an issue look at Pacesetter for 1/4 to 1/3 the price of the SS ones. I'm "down south" and am getting those.

60DRB-Thanks, it's good to be home..

Leaving one's truck in storage while overseas is OK at least you don't have someone driving it but little gremlins grow while it sits..

My 4.6 is OK...just OK nothing spectacular but much better than stock at least.

To say the least, the only thing that impresses me about my 4.6 is 20mpg highway. other than that, im afraid to haul more than a cord of wood. It just doesnt have the torque in low rpm's to pull a small car trailer or even maintain 75 up a hill without downshifting to 3grand on the tach.

....yea, my son's Dodge min van has more hp than my truck and it is a normally aspirated V6..

I am glad the new trucks have better engines than the one's in our older F150s...still hard to believe we used to be satisfied with in-line 6's and three on the trees..at least they had torque.

My 'ol crate is paid for and I surely don't want to get into payments again but if I had my time back...the 4.6 would not have been in my sights...seemed good at the time...

My 4.6 pulls great, hauls cars and tractors 5000-6500lbs and holds 65mph easy with just shifted out of od on hills. I love my reliable 4.6 its honestly my fav ford motor overall and I have had alot including 2 5.4's

Big White...you definately have the exception there...I have the newer 4.6 with a pile of after market goodies and there are times when it wouldn't get out of it's own way...it has more power than my friends' stock 4.6 but is a dog compared to my other friends' 4.7 Tundra..

I just don't get it.....

Well big thing with 95% of the 4.6's is they all have highway gears. The 4.6 has most its power in mid to high RPMs so I think if ford would of put more 4.6's with 3.73s or even 4.10s they would open up alil more. My truck by no means will roast the tires but I love the 4.6 for its reliabilty and has plenty of power for me and I just came out of a 6.4 tuned to the sound of 588HP so.I love my f150

Big White-that is a pile of ponies to change from..

I agree that the 4.6 takes a lot of winding up to get it going. I have true dual exhaust, CAI, tuner and the truck is meticulously tuned up and cared for but there are times that I have to wind the heck out of it to get anywhere especiallly up any hills...once I kick it out of over drive and stomp the gas pedal, it climbs the hills like a NasTruck...but it takes work.

I think Ford could have delved into their Cosworth engines and made something special for their truck engines...especially since the '97 F150 that mine is based on went right from concept to production...

Well whats funny is when I had my 04 stx 4x4 4.6 my cousin bought a brand new 06 stx both ext cab short box only diff was mine was lifted on 34s with cai and exhaust but he had stock tires and mine would spank his. His still doesnt have the power it should imo. But its gets abused now having over 100k and its rusted . Just saying I have seen 4.6 that are real dogs but both that I have had have had plenty of power

....I think I hear mine barking.........mine will spank my friend's stock truck easily but it is really not up to other trucks (like the Tundra 4.7) but I have noticed it is similar to the Chev 4.8...
