Fastest reg cab short box f150 years?
Hey guys
Might be grabbing an f150 and wondering which year is the fastest f150? I want to grab a reg can short box 4.6v8 auto. I am looking between a 1988 and a 2005, both have the same Amt of kms. So which has the fastest 0-60 and 1/4 mile? Thanks

Lightning? They were fairly quick in their day! J/k. Seriously the fastest should be most power with least weight. Maybe a 2wd short bed with a v8 and isn't a stick lighter than an automatic?

my only info on this topic comes from our last 2 parts trucks at work
1999 2wd 4.6 2v auto reg cab long bed 3.55 XL manual EVERYTHING
2005 2wd 4.6 2v auto reg cab long bed 3.55 XLT POWER EVERYTHING
the 99 just seemed so much better off the line and felt like it would run circles around the 05. but the 05 was a much nicer truck. I'm sure much of that feeling was the XLT creature comforts.
but aside from that, the 99 rode more like a truck, and the 05 just didnt. it was one of, if not THE best riding truck I have ever driven. considering how soft the rear of the 05 rode, I was almost scared to put any weight in the bed, until I had to haul 2 4.6 long blocks through the mountains. the variable rate springs on the back soaked up that load with no problems and when I thought I would be riding on the bump stops, but it squatted just a little bit, basically sitting level, and it just stayed there the whole trip.
I definitely raised my confidence in the capabilities of the newer truck.
no matter what truck you pick, the 4.6 2v is a slug. in its day competing with 5.2 dodges and 5.0 GM's it was competetive, but THAT IS IT.
I highly doubt that if equipped similarly that a 98 or an 05 will really be that much different in 1/4 mile. most likely the 98 will be lighter, but IMHO the 05 is such a nicer truck overall. also the 05 reg cabs have the nifty little suicide doors which allow for access behind the seat. I really miss those on my 12.
on a side note:
our 2009 parts truck was also a 4.6 2v, but it was an scab 4x4 STX w/ 3.73's.
it was a rocket ship off the line compared to both of the other 2 trucks. the 3.73 gears made a world of difference. if either truck has 3.73's in it I would pick that one over the other simply for the gears.

theoreticaaly a shortbox reg cab 2012 with 6.2 l motor[411 hp] should be fastest but in real life the 2003 lightning reg cab[380hp] probly beats most other trucks hands down.
