Default Edge CS Programer and 3v 5.4....

I recently bought a 2004 F150 FX4. Generally a Chevy guy but got a good deal and very happy except I bought an Edge Programer and when I have it on "extreme" mode I get the rattle noise between 1800rpm and 2100 rpm then goes away.

When I try the towing mode same thing just not as loud and when in stock mode nothing...awsome no complaints

My motor has 125,000 miles on it but like I said runs and sounds fine in stock programing

Do Edge products do that to your truck as well or is it just mine? Is the Edge programmer just to "extreme" on programing or an effect of a high mileage motor?

Thanks guys for all of the information I have been finding here on the site. I have been lurking for a while now and love the community feeling here.

almost like a chain draging on the ground or am I getting it confused with the "whistle" issue that I have read about....but like I said only happen when not useing the stock tune......oh and by the way it happens when useing premium gas.....even premium gas with octane boost.....

Probably pre-ignition, try octane boost or better gas.

Sorry..I was on vacation in Jamaica......I don't think it is a fuel issue. I had a half tank of regular then filled up with premium and add octane boot and still made the noise....I was reading a thread on cam phasers......what do they sound like when going bad? Could it be that when set in extreme mode on my programmer that my cam phasers don't adjust correctly with the timing?
