Default 4wd high.....squeel

2006, F150, 135,000 miles, 5.4 with 4wd, stock everything. Probably have driven 200 yds total in 4 wd. Lately I's getting a metalic squeel when I engage 4 HI....a little worse when going rearward. Chirp, chirp, chirp kind of squeel. It isn't the brake warning squeeler. Any ideas what that might be. Serious? Other than that the truck runs fine. Probably should have used 4wd more over the years. Just never needed it. M1911

Are there grease fittings? Wouldn't these joints be turning all the time? Why the squeel when in 4wd? A Fix? Thanks. M1911

like you said...if you never drove it in 4WD they are probably rusted..this is just a guess of what your noise is...but worth checking out.

Thanks techrep, think I will find a diagram of the layout under there and then crawl under for a look at the layout. At least I have a warm shop. I've got to change the gas filter anyway. M1911
