2nd blown engine in one year!
Last year at this time I had a new 5.4l engine put in my 2003 F150 FX4 due to oil leaking and not knowing about it. No codes no drop in pressure nothing to indicate a problem. Even had the truck in for some service the month before and they said my oil was fine. Next month I was missing 4.5 quarts and needed a new engine. Since then I have been going through an oil consumption test with the new engine due to it having the same symptoms as the old. The oil was just gone at the reate of 6.5 quarts in between changes ( I had to keep adding oil in between). The dealership took it apart and is now putting in another new engine due to warrenty on the other one. I found out today that the manifold bolts are bent and need replaced. Could that cause the oil to leak out? I am wondering because no one could tell me what happened to the oil in the other engine and I know the same bolts got used on this engine.
I assume you are referring to the intake manifold. I would say yes a bent valve could cause oil to leak but seems it would also have a vacuum leak as well. Seems as if there would be some sort of evidence of a leak as well.
bent manifold bolts? that should have nothing to do with oil along with the exhaust manifold. neither of em would cause a loss of oil. bent valve would make the motor run ****ty reguardless of losing oil hed of noticed it. and how did u lose 6.5 quarts? did u keep adding oil in between changes?
agreed...sounds like the replacement has a ring issue...those use low tension rings and if not properly broke in they will consume large amounts of oil...all cylinders will actually use oil (burn it) either that or the rings broke some how and that will also use oil...
