Default Shackle question

Yes, I know what you are thinking "Oh great! Another lowering shackle question!"

Mine is slightly different.

The BellTech 6406 2" Shackle is actually around 4" longer than stock. But only lowers 2" ?

Is there some kind of ratio fancy math involved in that? Maybe actual gain is only half of the difference?

Just install them, no one makes a 4" drop shackle bc it would go through the bed when installed. You'll net 2" of drop

I guess it's about a 1:2 ratio.

Here's the stock shackle:

You can see that the holes are right at 4-1/2" apart on the stocker.

I bought a pair of DJM shackles from another forum member. They are advertised as 2" drop shackles, and that's just about what I got out of them:

You can see that there are two holes 1" apart - I used the farthest out hole to get the 2" drop. Here's a picture of them on my truck:

You can see above that the holes are 8" apart - i.e., the holes on my DJM shackle are 3-1/2" farther apart than the stocker, and that gave me right at about 2" of drop.

Here's a link to a forum thread about drop shackles, and post #2 in the thread has pictures of my before/after results:

Bottom line - if the holes of your Belltech shackles are 4" farther apart than the holes on the stock shackle (which are 4-1/2" apart), then you'll probably get right at, or maybe just slightly more, than 2" of drop.

I put mine in the second hole which lowered my truck exactly 1.5" The rear now sits .5" higher than the rear which I think is perfect. So I'm glad I didn't install with the top hole.

I don't think the 1/2 inch is really noticeable. The whole 2 inch drop barely is.

Any pics bud? I have a 2013 Platinum and some 2" shackles sitting in my living room. I want about a 1" drop.

It is called similar triangles, if the axle is exactly in the middle of the 2 leaf spring mounts then it will be a 1:2 ratio...
