If my 4wd is not engaged, my front shaft shouldn't spin, should it?? Only when the front diff is engaged it should spin, correct?? How in depth was the switch to manual shift from the electronic shift?? I've been contemplating this for a while now, either that or the posilock cable. (A cable that connects to the front diff and acts as the actuator. Mounts inside cab and you pull for 4hi, 4low, and just push button to release for 2hi.) I just like the fact its shift on the fly but, the electrical problems are a real headache.

Bad solenoid tricking the system to keep a vacuum or the shift motor on the transfer case

the solenoids are cheap, and you can get a upgraded one with a rain hat. try that first. I believe the Motorcraft p/n is CX2117. I don't know the exact price but I do know it's under 50 bucks.

The vacuum actuator was bad on mine...the mechanic told me there was a bit of burring on the gears in the front diff and advised me to take it out to a trail and run it in 4 wheel drive to clean up the burrs..

...so I did and drove it on the trails for a couple hours in 4L and 4H...it is working now anyway and the mud was fun to drive in...

It is nice to have a 4X4 again...even my tuner car loving 20 yr old lad was impressed and even talked trucks with me...
