Default Wtf i dont know what the hell to do now

I have a 2000 4.6 4x4
I did a tune up to see if I can get rid of the codes for being too lean and misfiring #5 and the scanner I borrowed will not register anything or say no code but the check engine light is still on the scanner works on my dads f250 and my moms explorer what should I try first

Will the scanner light up at all or does it power up and just won't read the codes?

Yeah I guarantee it. On a lot of Ford vehicles it's the same as the horn as well as the power point.
