Default Wiring Blues

Today I was going to try and put some LED lights in my cup holder, an idea I got from BrowningScrew. I think it looks good. So I take off the negative cable from the battery and proceeded to cut and strip the wires. I had already soldered a section of lights to work so I hooked them up and kept them spread apart. I put the battery cable back on and just my luck the lights didn't work. Knowing what I've read if they don't work one way swap them. I already checked them and the LED lights did work. I went to swap the wires and I forgot to disconnect battery cable and zap, blew a fuse. It was a 5 amp fuse and I plugged one right back in. Now I have no power to the wires I cut for the new lights to go. Think maybe I got a relay too? I'm terrible with wires but this seemed so easy! I don't know what to do next. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, KP

Continuity check your power and ground, and make sure you didn't blow the wire up.

He saying to use a tester to make sure your power wire and ground is still good and not damaged. Can't get power from a severely damaged wire...

No power to either wire. This light only comes on when head lights are on. I noticed when I started the truck the dome light went out until it started.

The dome light will go out when the starter is engaged if that's what you're talking about. Lets try this, where did you get the power from for these LED's. What wire did you splice into? Or did you run your own? Where did you run it from?

Since LED's are semiconductor devices U must not wire them backwards. Make sure of Ur positive and ground sources. Since They are very sensitive to ground, make sure it is a good one. At this point we have no idea what circuit ur talking about. Is it off the head light switch? Once U recognize the circuit by the fuse that blew we can help U more. Look at UR owners manual and let us know which fuse it is.

I checked the LED lights on a lawn mower battery, the wire I was going to use is the one that goes to the cup holder light. The light in it was shot but was getting power. When I went to swap the wires, they accidently touched with a very small spark. It blew a 5 amp fuse, replaced fuse, no power. It was fuse number 5. I spliced into the cup holder wires for the power and ground.
