Default Windshield Wipers Not Working

Hello everyone!

Since I bought my truck, almost 6 months ago now, the windshield wipers never have worked very well. In order to get them to work, I would have to turn the wipers on BEFORE I started the engine. Even then, only sometimes would it work. If it was cold out, it would never work, no matter what.

I have a 2003 F150 XLT V8 5.4L. I figure it is a problem with the switch that controls it, but I would like to see if anyone has any other ideas.

Thanks!

Could be a switch or motor problem. I'd go with the switch. Fairly easy to replace and pretty cheap.

Alright. The local O'Reillys tells me that they can get me either a BWD brand or the Motorcraft brand. The BWD is $102.99 and the Motorcraft is $145.99. I don't know anything about BWD, but I do know that Motorcraft is Ford. Here's the link to both:

BWD - Turn Signal Switch (Part #S14375)

Motorcraft - Turn Signal Switch (Part #SW5580)

Oh, also while we are talking about lights and switches, I got to ask whether it is normal or not that I can not shut off my head lights fully. They only get a little dimmer. Every other vehicle I have ever driven, you can shut the lights off completely.

Unless you hell bent on motorcraft parts, (I work at Ford and I'm not) Get this and save money. Plus if it dies, Amazon is way easier to return to and they don't care if it was installed like most parts stores.

I ended up making a trip to the local scrap yard, Pull-A-Part, and I got a switch for only $8.50!! Installed it this afternoon and it works like a charm!!

While I was there, I also got replacement taillights and a spiffy bed liner!! The bed liner is a perfect match for my truck and it was only $32.50! Quite excited about the haul today.

I also got my hitch piece back from the welder and the hitch installed! Today has been a good day to say the least!

Well, it turns out that the switch didn't do the trick after all. The wipers still don't work. They worked after I installed the switch, but did not this morning. Any other ideas what could have gone wrong? Motors, computer, etc? Is there a way to test the switch with a multi meter?

Any help is appreciated!

I'm going to give this a shot tomorrow: https://www.fordf150.net/howto/fix-i...er-problem.php

How likely that this could be the problem?

I would say it's worth a shot. If it doesn't fix it I would be looking at the motor.

Is it a single motor or two? I find it hard to imagine that two motors fail at the same time.
